The challenge
SME clients were asking their broker how AI affected their risk and what insurers would expect. The broker wanted to give practical help, not just general advice, without building an AI governance capability from scratch.
The solution
The broker partnered with TURMA to offer clients a Snapshot of their AI use as part of the renewal conversation, with a clear route into ongoing governance through TURMA Assured and staff training through TURMA Passport.
This is an illustrative scenario showing how an advisory partner could work with TURMA. It does not describe a specific TURMA partner, and the figures describe the approach rather than measured results.
The situation
A regional commercial insurance broker looked after several hundred SME clients. Over the past year, AI had started coming up in client meetings. Clients wanted to know whether using AI changed their cover, what insurers would ask, and what "good" looked like.
The broker’s team understood risk well. They didn’t have the time or specialist knowledge to advise on AI governance in detail. And they didn’t want to send clients away with nothing.
What they did
1. Made AI part of the review
The broker introduced a short AI question set into its client review process. Clients who were using AI, or weren’t sure, were offered a TURMA Snapshot to get a clear picture of their AI use and a recommended next step.
2. Gave clients a clear path
For clients who wanted to go further, the broker introduced TURMA Assured to help them run governance day to day, and TURMA Passport to train their people and earn a credential they could show their insurer.
3. Kept the relationship at the centre
The broker stayed the trusted adviser throughout. TURMA provided the product and expertise in the background, so the broker didn’t need to build a new capability.
The outcome
Clients came away with something practical, not just a warning. The broker had a fresh, valuable conversation to bring to renewals, and a way to show it was ahead of a topic clients cared about.
Why it works
Advisers are often the first people SMEs turn to when something new feels risky. A clear, calm answer to "what should we do about AI?" strengthens that trust. Partnering means advisers can offer a real solution without stepping outside their expertise.
